Throughout your time at London Waterloo Academy you are taught how to maximize your learning and achieve the top A*-C grades necessary to take the A Level options you want at sixth form.
GCSE English:
Lessons are structured to enable you to pass your GCSE written and Oral examinations. Unit 1 and Unit 2: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
You are prepared to answer compulsory examination questions and as such study a specific set text, nonfiction text and poetry.
To enable you to obtain optimum marks in the Speaking and Listening Oral examination, the course includes presenting, discussions and role play.
You regularly receive written task in the form of essay questions and poetry analysis to improve your understanding of texts and your ability to use literary devices appropriately and write creatively. Students entering for Higher Tier (H) and Foundation Tier (F) papers can apply.
It is helpful to know the examination board you are being entered for when making your application to London Waterloo Academy.
GCSE Mathematics:
This is a very popular course at Summit Saturday School with students achieving A*-C grades.
Examining bodies AQA, Edexcel and OCR now offer the same topics for GCSE Mathematics.
We welcome pupils taking Higher Tier (H) and Foundation Tier (F) GCSE and IGCSE Mathematics.
New Mathematics essentially incorporates: Functional Maths, Problem solving and thinking skills
We seek to encourage a love of mathematics in our pupils. It is important that you understand the concepts and our teacher’s style of teaching has proved very successful. Our teachers are very conversant with the specifications. They are fully trained in the new specifications and will work with you to develop your skills in all topics.
GCSE Mathematics examination format:
There are 2 question papers for Foundation and Higher Tier, with paper 1 being non calculator and Paper 2 calculator.
