CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme
CITB (SSSTS) Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme course for you, if you’re considering, or already have, supervisory responsibilities.
This two-day course will reinforce and update your knowledge and understanding of your legal responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare and environmental issues.
It is endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) as the standard training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites and provides an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. It highlights legal responsibilities and the need to promote health and safety to supervise effectively.
At the end of the SSSTS course you will understand:
- health and safety law and how it applies to supervisors
- your supervisory responsibilities in controlling site safely
- risk assessments and the need for method statements
- effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
- monitoring site activities effectively
- timely intervention when bad practice is identified
CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme is a two day course, designed to ensure those with Site Supervisory responsibilities understand expectations and how they contribute to workplace safety.
CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme course topics:
- The Health and Safety at Work Act
- Specific site issues that challenge supervisors on a daily basis
- Effective toolbox talks
- Supervision of occupational health
- Behavioural safety
Assessment and exams:
This is a highly interactive course delivered by means of case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual/group presentations. You will be continuously assessed and required to successfully complete a multiple-choice test.
- On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate.
- This qualification must be renewed every five years by attending the SSSTS Refresher course.
Course attendance requirements:
Delegates are required to attend all sessions. Certificate will not be awarded to candidates who failed to attend or miss lessons. Where applicable, delegates must attend the days in order, in accordance with the course programme, to achieve the necessary learning objectives to qualify for the certificate.

If this is not possible, the delegate must enrol on a new course and retake the full course.
If it is not possible due to extenuating circumstances (for example bereavement or certified illness), the delegate may enrol on a new course to complete the missing days ensuring that they maintain the correct sequence of days, training and exercises.
Extenuating circumstances does not include work-based issues such as work load or holidays.
Under no circumstances may a delegate sit the compulsory objective examination unless all days have been attended and no delegate is allowed to attend more than two courses of split attendance.
Delegates unable to complete the course due to certified sickness or extenuating circumstances must complete the course within 90 days of the last day of attendance.
CITB reserves the right to charge an additional sum of to cover costs incurred when switching courses. This will be agreed in advance of the delegate moving course.
