We recently joined a summer festival in a local community, where we had the chance to assist people of all ages in learning more about oral health.
Dental Nursing is a profession that empowers you to make a tremendous impact on people’s lives while also giving you the opportunity to share knowledge and contribute to the local community through participation in various events. By teaching your neighbours and friends how to save money on dental care, you can truly make a difference. It all begins with understanding the importance of proper oral health, with teeth brushing playing a pivotal role. The results can be truly phenomenal when you know how to brush your teeth effectively and safeguard yourself from sugar and acids.
As part of our commitment to promoting dental care, we’d like to share some essential tips:
Brush your teeth for a full 2 minutes, twice a day, ensuring a thorough cleaning of all surfaces.
It is recommended not to rinse your teeth immediately after brushing because the toothpaste used during brushing contains active ingredients, such as fluoride, which help protect and strengthen your teeth. When you spit out the excess toothpaste after brushing, a thin layer of these beneficial ingredients remains on the surface of your teeth. This residual layer of toothpaste acts as a protective coating, providing additional benefits for your teeth throughout the day. It helps in two main ways:
- Fluoride Protection is effective in preventing tooth decay and cavities by remineralising weakened areas of the enamel and making the teeth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and sugary foods. When you don’t rinse, the fluoride continues to work on your teeth, providing ongoing protection.
- Sensitivity Control – The toothpaste layer also helps reduce tooth sensitivity
Avoid aggressive scrubbing of your teeth with a toothbrush, as this can damage the enamel layer. Loss of enamel can lead to tooth sensitivity, an increased risk of cavities, and a rise in bacterial activity, which may result in gum issues and tooth loss over time.
By adopting these simple yet effective practices, you can safeguard your oral health and contribute to your overall well-being. Dental Nursing goes beyond individual care, and through community engagement, we can collectively create a positive impact on oral health awareness and the well-being of everyone around us.
Remember, a healthy smile leads to a happier life!
