How will I study and learn on the NEBDN Dental Nursing course?
You will learn through a combination of face to face and online study, classroom workshops, and clinical placement in a dental practice. This blended approach ensures you develop both theoretical knowledge and real clinical experience required for NEBDN qualification.
Working together – Starting a new career isn’t easy and can often feel like a lonely and impossible process. Our Dental Department is always behind each learner, supporting every step of the way. We provide you with all the tools, skills, and assistance you need to succeed. Our success is built on the success of our students, with a long list of graduates boasting successful stories.
You will have: The course is based on one year part-time study, consisting of once-a-week, two-hour classes, along with a minimum of 16 hours per week of practical experience, involving work at a dental surgery. This practical experience is a paid job, unless you choose to work voluntarily for personal reasons. LWA will also provide a reference letter to the employer in case the learner finds a job independently.
We provide A-Z guidance starting from before and after the course. Your tutor will guide you through the course to graduation which you will be welcome to attend.
On successful completion you will hold: National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Diploma and, will enable you to register as a Dental Care Professional with the General Dental Council (GDC) and practice as a qualified Dental Nurse.
What are the entry requirements for the NEBDN Dental Nursing Diploma Level 3?
No prior dental experience is required. The qualification is suitable for Learners aged 16+. It is delivered and assessed in English. Learners must be sufficiently fluent in written and spoken English to communicate effectively with patients, their relatives, the dental team, and other healthcare professionals in the UK. (GDC Standards for the Dental Team, 2.1.2) although strong communication skills and a willingness to work in a clinical environment are important.
What does the NEBDN Dental Nursing Diploma include?
This qualification includes all theoretical knowledge, practical competencies, and clinical training required to meet NEBDN standards. It covers dental anatomy, infection control, patient care, radiography support, and clinical practice.
The curriculum is based on the GDC (General Dental Council) registration requirements for dental nurses. It sets out the knowledge, skills and behavioural requirements that should be developed and demonstrated. These are set out in terms of professional competencies, with the assessment method clearly outlined (e.g. how the skills and knowledge will be assessed in the final examinations – via written questions such as multiple choice (MCQ) or extended matching questions (EMQ) or via Objective Structured Clinical Examinations – OSCEs). The syllabus details those areas of knowledge and understanding which a Dental Nurse needs to develop in order to be able to practise competently. Therefore much of the examination is based on the candidate being able to apply the knowledge in a practical setting.
