Introduction:
Learning a language is like unlocking a previously unchartered territory on the world map, where you get to know more about the culture of a particular ‘sphere’ (a bundle of countries united by one single culture) and savour a new way of thinking. With the rise of Anglo-American culture, I’m sure you’ve all been, at some point, been exposed to unhealthy doses of British and American entertainment. In many countries, however, English language films and TV shows are dubbed.

Have you ever wondered if How I met your mother could get even funnier with all its memorable puns and splendid jokes? Have you been enticed by Doctor Who and wondered what it would take to sound like the posh British characters in the series? Has a friend sent you an English meme on Instagram before and you get frustrated because somehow you are the only one who doesn’t get it?

What’s more, you finally pick up an ‘English for Dummies’ from the local bookshop. And what await are a small series of so-called ‘grammar and spelling rules’ and heaps of exceptions. Annoying, eh? How do you distinguish, phonetically: ‘thorough’, ‘through’, ‘though’, ‘thou’, and ‘tough’? Facepalm.

No worries – we’re here to help. The Academy has taught English as a foreign language for so many years. We are language experts who know exactly what works and what doesn’t.

We are different. We don’t treat learners with kid gloves (another useful expression!). The vast majority of our staff and students are multilingual, and know exactly the immense difficulties that learners routinely face when learning English.

Fresh Teaching Method (shh…it’s a secret): Textual Analysis

Instead of teaching boring grammar rules and repeating the ‘phrasal verbs’ your primary school English teacher has endlessly bombarded you, we shine. We illuminate. We adopt a fresh pedagogical approach called ‘Textual Analysis’. It means:

Every lesson is organised around three texts. Text 1 is usually a set of song lyrics to warm you up for the other texts and familiarise yourself with the culture of the English-speaking world. Text 2 consists of a (or a set of) professional text which prepares you for the competitive world of employment. Text 3 is usually extracted from newspaper articles, magazine articles, and/or books. Sometimes, dialogue transcripts and poems may also be featured! That way, you are exposed to different grammatical and literary situations which ultimately benefit your learning!

Textual analysis focuses on language and organisation. Why is Word A used instead of Word B? How do the language features of a particular text modify the tone so that it is fit for its intended purpose? How can I apply what I’ve learnt to excel in English?

All lessons are interactive. Instead of having a teacher blabbering for three hours straight, textual analysis entails discussion and discourse. Learners are invited to critique and comment on the language of different texts, and learn how native speakers write and speak.

Dates for 2024 –  22 January 2024, 18 March, 20 May, 16 September, 18 November
Class Days – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Time – 9:30am to 12:30pm  (3 hours per day, 15 hours per week)
Lessons – Hybrid Teaching – Classroom-based and Zoom-based learning available (choose your study mode)
Recurring – there will always be lessons. Learning English is a lifelong process. There’s always something new to discover!

Fees for EU candidates  (we accept instalments and offer payment plan):
1 month – £350
3 months – £950
6 months – £1,900  + Student/Oyster Card
1 year – £3,900 + Student /Oyster Card

Cannot attend scheduled classes due to a work or any other commitment?
We have Flexi Plan option, which will allows you to reschedule up to 3 lessons (email notification required 24 hours in advance).
If you wish to register for 3 months course but cannot attend every Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday lessons, with this plan you can attend missed lessons on the following month.
Flexi Plan Fees (for students who cannot attend 3 days per week classes) – £500 for 3 months

International students fee (must be paid in full if UK Visa entry required):
1 week – £175
6 month – £2,200
1 year – £4,200
